It is identical to the patched Open Inventor 2.1.2 and 2.1.3 releases (see patch2979) except that it is built for IRIX 6.5. The OOOOppppeeeennnn IIIInnnnvvvveeeennnnttttoooorrrr 2222....1111....6666 EEEExxxxeeeeccccuuuuttttiiiioooonnnn EEEEnnnnvvvviiiirrrroooonnnnmmmmeeeennnntttt is required to run Open Inventor 2.1.x programs on IRIX 6.5. There are a variety of programs that require this subsystem and thus it is installed by default. _M_o_s_t _u_s_e_r_s _d_o _n_o_t _h_a_v_e _t_o _c_o_n_c_e_r_n _t_h_e_m_s_e_l_v_e_s _w_i_t_h _t_h_e _d_e_t_a_i_l_s _o_f _t_h_i_s _s_u_b_s_y_s_t_e_m; _s_i_m_p_l_y _i_n_s_t_a_l_l _t_h_e _d_e_f_a_u_l_t_s _t_o _e_n_a_b_l_e _I_n_v_e_n_t_o_r _p_r_o_g_r_a_m_s _t_o _r_u_n. The curious user may be interested in running the Inventor demonstration programs (inventor_eoe.demo.progs), or browsing the sample 3D models that are supplied (inventor_eoe.data.sample). Open up a desktop folder on the Inventor sample data directory( /usr/share/data/models installed by subsystem inventor_eoe.data.sample) and double-click on the icons to view the 3D models, (or use the shell to run /usr/sbin/ivview - ivview is installed as part of inventor_eoe.sw.inventor). The OOOOppppeeeennnn IIIInnnnvvvveeeennnnttttoooorrrr DDDDeeeevvvveeeellllooooppppmmmmeeeennnntttt KKKKiiiitttt is available as a separate product; it is an object-oriented 3D toolkit based on OpenGL that offers a comprehensive solution to 3D graphics programming problems. It dramatically simplifies programming and empowers programmers writing 3D graphics programs. If you write 3D graphics programs, or have a hankering to start, then you really should check out Inventor! 1.1 _A__B_r_i_e_f__H_i_s_t_o_r_y__o_f__I_n_v_e_n_t_o_r__R_e_l_e_a_s_e_s Here's a list of the existing Inventor releases: _R_e_l_e_a_s_e _I_r_i_x _N_e_e_d _r_u_n-_t_i_m_e _N_o_t_e_s Use for 4.0-based 1.0 programs; no longer supported. 1.0.1 4.0.1 libInventor1.0.1_s Use for 5.2-based 1.0 programs 1.1.2 5.2 libInventor.so.1 First release of 2.0; no longer supported. 2.0 5.2 libInventor.so.2 - 2 - A binary compatible bug fix release to Inventor 2.0. 2.0.1 5.3 libInventor.so.2 Initial release of Inventor 2.1, the performance release. Inventor 2.0/2.0.1 programs must be recompiled to run under Inventor 2.1. 2.1 5.3 libInventor.so.3 The software is the same as 2.1, but the library size was reduced, and some installation problems were fixed. 2.1.1 5.3 libInventor.so.3 Release for IRIX 6.2. Contains multiple versions of the libraries. 2.1.2 6.2 libInventor.so.3 Release for IRIX 6.3. Removed name space conflicts with other IRIX libraries. 2.1.3 6.3 libInventor.so.3 Release for IRIX 6.5. Bug fixes to the 2.1.3 release. This release is identical to 2.1.3 and 2.1.2 with patch2979 applied. 2.1.4 6.5 libInventor.so.3 Release for IRIX 6.2, IRIX 6.3, IRIX 6.4 and IRIX 6.5. Bug fixes to the 2.1.2, 2.1.3 and 2.1.4 releases. 2.1.5 6.2 libInventor.so.3 Release for IRIX 6.5. Bug fixes to the 2.1.2, 2.1.3, 2.1.4, and 2.1.5 releases. 2.1.6 6.5 libInventor.so.3 Here's a basic rule of thumb: - 3 - If you are running Inventor programs linked with `older' versions of Inventor than what is currently installed on your system, then you need to install the appropriate inventor_eoe compatibility sub-systems (e.g. inventor_eoe.sw.2_0 for Inventor 2.0 programs). New Features 1.2 _O_n_l_i_n_e__R_e_l_e_a_s_e__N_o_t_e_s After you install the online documentation for a product (the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s subsystem), you can view the release notes on your screen. If you have a graphics system, select ``Release Notes'' from the Tools submenu of the Toolchest. This displays the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) graphical browser for the online release notes. Refer to the _g_r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for information on options to this command. If you do not have a graphics system, you can use the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s command. Refer to the _r_e_l_n_o_t_e_s(1) man page for accessing the online release notes.
